New-Wes-Valley is a very beautiful municipality which is situated in Newfoundland and Labrador. As per Canadian Census 2016, population of New-Wes-Valley Newfoundland and Labrador Canada was 2,172. This place was incorporated in year 1992 and is situated at the North end region of The Bonavista Bay.

New-Wes-Valley derived its name from the towns of Valleyfield, Wesleyville and Newtown. This beautiful municipality was formed by the combination of 8 villages; Valleyfield, Pool’s Island, Badger’s Quay, Brookfield, Wesleyville, Pound Cove, Templeman and Newtown, which adjoin each other with a stretch of 15 km coastline that contain number of beautiful islands, coves and harbours.

Terrain of this area is relatively flat, rocky and barren in comparison with province. Now, these 8 villages retain their own identity, with municipality having 11 churches.


Fishery history of this area goes back to the 18th century, and was settled by the English fishermen permanently in early to the mid of 19th century. Early fishermen used to live in the island settlements like Flower’s Island, Pinchards Island and Swains Island it is an offshore and is the richest inshore fishing grounds, but this community was resettled to the mainland during 19th century, with further resettlement of island that occured in year 1953.


During 19th and early of 20th centuries, this area was the home to the very famous Newfoundland sealing families that include the Barbours, Winsors and Keans. Now this area is having beautiful and amazing mercantile premises, churches and homes.

Economy of this town has been supported by fish plant in the Valleyfield, which is owned by The Beothic Fisheries since 1960s. Like other fishing communities of Newfoundland, this town has been suffered from decline in population in the recent years.

There’s a huge peak of population that occurred more than 3,000 people during 1950s through to the year 1990s. Presently, tourism is one of the very important industry in New-Wes-Valley Newfoundland and Labrador Canada with number of beautiful heritage buildings and wonderful sites to visit, that include the Barbour Living Heritage Village.
